Getting Started

What’s in the box?
In the BlackBerry Z10 box you will find:
  • BlackBerry Z10 handset.
  • Start Guide.
  • Safety and Product Information.
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon leaflet.
  • Charger plug connector.
  • USB lead.
  • Earphones.
How to insert your microSIM
  • Place the phone face down on a sturdy surface.
  • Use the groove at the base of the handset to loosen the back cover.
  • Peel back the cover and place to one side.
  • Use the groove at the bottom of the battery to lift and remove.
  • Take your microSIM card and insert it into the microSIM slot.
  • Replace the battery ensuring the gold connectors on the top of the battery pack meet those on the phone.
  • Replace the back cover and click the tabs in around the edge to secure.
How to insert your microSD card
  • Place the phone face down on a sturdy surface.
  • Use the groove at the base of the handset to loosen the back cover.
  • Peel back the cover and place to one side.
  • Take your microSD card and insert it into the microSD slot on the left of the handset.
  • Replace the back cover and click the tabs in around the edge to secure.
How to charge your phone
  • Unravel USB charging cable.
  • Insert large end into the bottom of the charger plug connector.
  • Push until it slots into place.
  • Insert the small USB end into the USB slot on the left hand side of the device.
  • Locate plug and insert plug connector into socket.
  • Flick socket switch to On position.
Or:
  • Unravel USB charging cable.
  • Insert the large end into USB slot on a laptop/PC.
  • Insert the small USB end into the USB slot on the left hand side of the device.
How to set up your phone
  • Press and hold the power button to turn the device on.
  • Select your chosen language and swipe left to continue.
  • Join a Wi-Fi network by tapping the network name and following the on-screen instructions. If you don’t want to do this now, swipe to the left to skip this section.
  • Read through the BlackBerry License Agreement and if you are happy to continue tap ‘I Agree’.
  • Either Sign in with your BlackBerry ID if you have one by tapping Sign In, or choose Create New to create one, or swipe left to skip this section.
  • If you are happy for BlackBerry to collect details of your diagnostics and location data tap Enable, otherwise tap Disable.
  • If any software updates are available for your device you can select to update via Wi-Fi or Mobile Network. If you would prefer to do this at another time tap Later.
  • Swipe left to continue.
  • Follow the on-screen Tutorial to find out about Essential Gestures.
  • When the Tutorial is complete swipe up from the base of the screen.
  • Swipe to the left to be taken through to the homescreen.
How to change the language on your phone
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Language and Input.
  • Tap Language and select your desired language from the menu.

Software

What’s the latest software available for my phone?
The BlackBerry Z10 runs the BlackBerry 10 OS and this is currently the most recent version available.
How to update your phone’s software
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Scroll down and tap Software Updates.
  • Tap Check For Updates.
How to perform a factory reset
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Scroll down the Apps Menu and tap Settings.
  • Scroll down and tap Security and Privacy.
  • Tap Security Wipe.
  • Tap the white box and enter the word ‘blackberry’ in it using the keypad.
  • Tap Delete Data.

How to set up a BlackBerry ID
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap BlackBerry ID.
  • Tap Create New.
  • Enter your first and last names in the relevant boxes using the keypad.
  • Tap the white box below BlackBerry ID Username and enter your existing email address.
  • Enter and then re-enter your chosen password.
  • Enter a Password Recovery Question and Answer in the boxes provided.
  • Tap Submit.
  • Tap Change Password to change your chosen password.
  • Tap Change Recovery Questions to change your chosen recovery question.
  • Tap Edit if you wish to change any of the details you have entered.
How to set up an email account
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Accounts.
  • Tap ‘Email, Calendar and Contacts’.
  • Enter the email address attached to your account using the keypad.
  • Tap Next.
  • Enter the password associated with your chosen email account using the keypad.
  • Tap Next.
  • Enter a suitable name for your account by tapping the white box below Description, then delete the current name and enter a new one using the keypad.
  • Email, contacts, calendar and tasks are automatically set to sync – to switch syncing off move the relevant slider to the left .
  • Tap Done.
How to send an email
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Swipe to the right to enter the BlackBerry Hub.
  • Tap Compose.
  • Select the email address that you would like to send the email from.
  • Enter the recipient’s email address in the To bar.
  • Enter the subject of the email in the Subject bar.
  • Enter your message in the email body.
  • Tap Send to send the email.
How to send an attachment in an email
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Swipe to the right to enter the BlackBerry Hub.
  • Tap Compose.
  • Select the email address that you would like to send the email from.
  • Enter the recipient’s email address in the To bar.
  • Enter the subject of the email in the Subject bar.
  • Enter your message in the email body.
  • Tap and hold the space bar on the keypad to minimise it.
  • Tap the Paperclip icon to attach your file.
  • Select the type of file you wish to attach.
  • Tap the file to highlight it and then tap Done.
  • Tap Send to send email.
How to save an attachment
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Swipe to the right to enter the BlackBerry Hub.
  • Tap the email with the attachment you want to save.
  • Tap and hold the name of the attachment at the top of the email.
  • Tap the Save icon (this looks like a folder with a tick above it).
  • Select the location on the phone where you would like the file to be saved.
  • Tap Save.
How to delete a mailbox
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Accounts.
  • Select the mailbox you would like to delete by tapping on the associated email account.
  • Tap Delete, and then Delete.
How to send a text message using your voice
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Swipe to the right to enter the BlackBerry Hub.
  • Tap Compose.
  • Tap Text Messages.
  • Enter your recipient in the To bar.
  • Tap and hold the full stop button on the keypad to open Voice Command.
  • Tap Attach Voice Note.
  • Speak your message and tap Done when finished.
  • Tap Send.
How to set up social network feeds
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Accounts.
  • Tap Add Account.
  • Select which social network you want to set up and tap on its name.
  • Enter the login details for your chosen social network.
  • Tap Done.
Does my phone have an app store?
Yes, the BlackBerry Z10 is serviced by the BlackBerry World store.

How to download an app
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Tap the BlackBerry World icon.
  • Browse through the store until you find an app you want or use the search function.
  • Tap the app you want to download.
  • Tap Download.
  • Read the Terms and Conditions, and if you agree tap Accept.
How to close an app
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Swipe to the right from the Apps Menu to see the open app thumbnails.
  • Tap the ‘X’ in the bottom right hand corner of any app thumbnail to close that app.

How to delete/uninstall an app
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Scroll through the Apps Menu until you find the app you want to delete.
  • Tap and hold the app icon and tap the trash can that appears in the top right of the app icon.
  • Tap Delete.

How to pair your phone with another Bluetooth device
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Network Connections.
  • Tap Bluetooth.
  • Move the Bluetooth slider to the right to switch it on.
  • Tap the device you wish to pair with.
  • Tap Yes to agree the mutual PIN.
How to turn off Bluetooth
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Network Connections.
  • Tap Bluetooth.
  • Move the Bluetooth slider to the left into the Off position.
How to connect your phone to your computer
  • Unravel USB charging cable.
  • Insert large end into USB slot on a laptop/PC.
  • Insert small USB end into the USB slot on the left hand side of the device.
How to setup Wi-Fi
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Network Connections.
  • Tap Wi-Fi.
  • Move the Wi-Fi slider to the right into the On position.
  • Tap the network you want to connect to.
  • If you need to enter a password, enter the username and password and tap Done.
How to setup a Wi-Fi Hotspot
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Network Connections.
  • Tap Mobile Hotspot.
  • Move the Wi-Fi slider to the right into the On position.
  • Tap Configure to edit your network name and password.
  • Tap Save to confirm.
How to open a web page on the browser
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Tap the Browser icon from the Apps Menu to open a web page.
How to open multiple pages
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Tap the Browser icon from the Apps Menu to open a web page.
  • Tap the Tabs icon in the bottom left corner.
  • Tap New Tab to open a new web page.
How to switch between web pages
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Tap the Browser icon from the Apps Menu to open a web page.
  • Tap the Tabs icon in the bottom left corner.
  • Select the web page that you wish to switch to from the list of open web pages.
How to close a web page
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Tap the Browser icon from the Apps Menu to open a web page.
  • Tap the Tabs icon in the bottom left corner.
  • Tap the ‘X’ next to the name of the web page you wish to close to close it.
How to bookmark a web page
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Tap the Browser icon from the Apps Menu to open a web page.
  • Load the webpage you want to bookmark.
  • Tap the Menu button in the bottom right corner.
  • Tap Add Bookmark.

How to take a picture
  • Press the Power button then tap and hold the camera icon in the bottom right to unlock directly into camera mode.
  • Line up your shot and tap anywhere on screen or press the volume rocker to capture the image.
How to capture a video
  • Press the Power button then tap and hold the camera icon in the bottom right to unlock directly into camera mode.
  • Tap the camera icon and then tap the video icon (this looks like a film camera).
  • Tap anywhere on screen or press the volume rocker to start recording.
  • Tap anywhere on screen or press the volume rocker again to stop recording.
How to turn the camera flash on and off
  • Press the Power button then tap and hold the camera icon in the bottom right to unlock directly into camera mode.
  • Tap the Options tab (this looks like three stacked dots).
  • Tap the relevant icon to switch flash between On, Off and Auto.
How to view the pictures you’ve taken
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Tap the Pictures icon from the Apps Menu to open the image gallery.
  • Tap Camera.
  • Tap the image that you wish to view.
How to edit a photo
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Tap the Pictures icon from the Apps Menu to open the image gallery.
  • Tap Camera.
  • Tap the image that you wish to edit.
  • Tap Edit.
  • Edit the photo using the available options until you are satisfied with it.
  • Tap Done and then tap Save.
How to delete a photo or video
  • Swipe up from the base of the screen to unlock the device.
  • Tap the Pictures icon from the Apps Menu to open the image gallery.
  • Tap Camera.
  • Tap the image that you wish to delete.
  • Tap the Options tab (this looks like three stacked dots).
  • Tap Delete.
  • Tap Delete again.
How to send a photo or video message

  • Tap the Pictures icon from the Apps Menu to open the image gallery.

  • Tap the image or video that you wish to send in a message.
  • Tap Share.
